The Bactrian Camel has two humps on their backs which are used to store fat that they use when food or water is low. When the camel uses up this fat, the hump becomes floppy. A thirsty Camel can drink as much as 30 gallons of water in 13 minutes. The average life span of the Bactrian Camel is approximately 50 years, and the average height is 7 feet tall at the hump. Bactrian Camels can weigh as much as 1800 pounds. Groups of Bactrian Camels are called Flocks or Caravans. The Bactrian Camel has nostrils that close, which helps prevent them from breathing in sand, this along with their two rows of long bushy eyelashes, which keeps the blowing sand out of their eyes, shows how well adapted this animal is to it’s environment. Also, the Bactrian Camel has big, flat footpads which prevent them from sinking in the sand, and protect them against the rough rocky terrain. It is thought the only Bactrian camels left in the wild live in the Gobi Desert of Mongolia and China, and number less than 1000 animals, all others are domesticated or in zoo’s.Many people wonder what the key to success really is, and where to find it.
